FRIDAY- February 12th

The city puts on the largest party in the world, Carnival, from February 12th to the 16th, with several pre-carnival events. The official end is on February 20th, Saturday de las Campeonas, when, in la Passarela do Samba, the winning schools share a spectacular show of rare beauty. There is also an acknowledgement of the three best bands of musicians that bring joy and fun to the neighborhoods of the city.

CARNIVAL 2010 OPENING CEREMONY

The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, in a symbolic act , gives the keys of the city to the Rei Momo, allowing the Carnival festivities to begin. This event includes the participation of the Rei Momo, and the Queen and Princess of the Carnival.

Traditional meeting point of the carioca Carnival, the Dance da Cinelândia, created in 1990, and since then, one of the best shows of Carnival de Rua de la ciudad, joins over 60 thousand people during the five day event. The biggest idols of the Carnival of all times are in the balcony just in front of the stairs of the Câmara Municipal de Rio de Janeiro. The public can dance and sing to the songs that were musical hits made by the well known Carnival artists.
